A quick rewind of 2020 !
Enough of sorrows, glitches, miseries we all as a community have faced in 2020. Let us all move towards for a better 2021. Let the pandemic end and may the world regain its strength and move forwards with absolute strength and no looking back.
2020 as an year, has taught us all about the importance of mutual co-existence, importance of family, importance of appreciating little things, importance of health, importance of nature and last but not the least to know to our self and spend quality time to nurture ourselves.
Let us quickly, rewind the year...
Politically, the year was a fun feast to watch for admirers of politics. In the world where "Nation First",
increased authoritarian regime is increasing, the new President-elect of US Joe Biden has filled hopes in the minds of people who were waiting for the human rights to get restored. Asap, may he take owe in this January with no technical and fundamental backlashes. For India, conducting winter session of Parliament was impossible, but road to campainging in elections was easy for leaders ! This year in the battle between ordinances and acts made by Parliament, the latter has won with huge majority. Let democracy win in 2021 !!
Economically, the year 2020 has shattered all the hopes of global economy. With the Coronavirus brought lockdown, the economy was almost closed for 6 months. India, which was already suffering from slump in GDP growth rate, has witnessed a huge slowdown in its growth by the lockdown. The year started with global trade wars between USA and China, sanctions of US on Iran and Iranian products, WTO roadblocks, BREXIT tensions of no deal. But the economy has almost nothing to talk about in 2020 as the global market doors went closed to protect themselves from virus. Let economy may regain its power with no sanctions, restrictions , trade blocs and may flourish with open and free markets.
Environmentally, the year taught us the importance of co-existence of man, nature and animals. Everyone must have their own spaces. It is evident that further encroachment of man on nature is an invitation to many more viruses, pandemics, disasters. Earth is a place not only exclusively designed to man, but to all the ingredients of the ecosystem. It is high time that we take Paris Accord seriously and work on the prescribed set of targets and save our own existence.
Internationally, inspite of craze of bipolar world from time immemorial, growing importance towards multipolar world is evident. Hegemonistic policies of US and China have created tensions across the world. But the 21st century already named as Asian centric, has proved itself to the world with its new groupings of RCEP, SAARC , BIMSTEC and so on. Countries surrounding Mediterranean Sea were all in the news with issues of Arab Spring, Palestine, Syria, Turkey tensions. African nations have also proved to the world of its capacity by forming African Continental FTA. So, overall the world is moving towards multipoles, multilateral agreements in place of bilateral treaties, forming new groupings to protect from counters. Overall, every nation is trying to show its full potential regardless of its military, economy, capacity and capability.
Technologically, year marked with increased importance to vaccine development methods and researches. Apart from the boom in pharmaceutical sector, science has shown its potential of making a nation great overnight (with development of vaccines). Many ballistic, supersonic, hypersonic missiles have occupied the space.
Socially, this year has outthrown the importance of mutual co-existence. Man, who is busy chasing the time, has slowed down and cherished and revisited his family, friends and well wishers. Thanks to lockdown. But when we turn the other side of the coin it is devastating with roads piled with thousands of migrants going back to their home towns with no help from humanity around them. Many have lost their lives, death bodies were left alone on the roads with no proper cremation and in fear of virus. Baking has been the routine in all most all the houses. But many of the houses surrounding us (which we do not know they existed) suffered for one meal per day, as breadwinners lost their jobs.
So over all what we have learnt from 2020??
How much ever wealth we may generate,
how much ever military a nation has kept ready,
how much ever technology the humans have attained to reach the new destinations in space
IT IS ALL WASTE, if we don't have SAFER EARTH
CLEANER AIR
BLUIER SKY
and not the least
A SMILE ON YOUR FACE AND YOUR NEXT PERSON !! (whoever s/he may be)
until next time
Pooja Kappe
Very well Expressed in words Pooja !! To me, winner of 2020 is Humanity.
